Sandtray therapy

Sandtray Therapy is an expressive and projective intervention for people of all ages. It can be particularly helpful for those who are nonverbal, and anyone who has difficulty verbalizing their emotional experience. It can be practiced in tandem with other forms of therapy, including

traditional "talk therapy."

In a Sandtray session, an idividual creates their own microcosm that is a refelection of his/her own life. Because the miniature world is expressed through symbolism and metaphor, the individual may not be consiously aware of their projections. However, the concrete nature of these projections affords the opportunity to resolve conflicts, remove obstacles, and gain self-acceptance.

Sandtray therapy has an advantage of being a conservative yet progressive approach. There is a reduced potential for emotional distress or retraumatization, and the results are maximized due to a person's emotional experience being processed in a non-threatening way.
